Village Bench Summary

The Village Bench is a show for the local viewing community in and around the City of Falls Church airing on FCCTV and it will be focused on building, supporting and acknowledging good sportsman-like behaviors. 

The goals of the Village Bench are first to educate and inform parents and players at the entry and mid-level of sports participation, and to help prepare them for healthy activity in team or individual sports. The show will engage current/former youth athletes, parents of athletes, recreational and travel league/high school (public and private school) coaches, league officials and administrators in dialogue.  The discussions will address local, national and international sports topics and the healthy engagement of athletes promoting good sportsman-like behavior.

The format of the show will be 4 panelist and a moderator. All positions will rotate so a new combination of views will be heard and experiences shared. The segments are still in development but will include the following:

• Questions for the group to discuss (4-6 questions)
• Mailbox segment -  where the community can send a Thank You to anyone that has helped them be a better athlete or reach a certain goal. The remarks will be accepted in various media formats to include video, audio, email and Facebook submissions, etc.
• Action segment - showcases sports action photos and edited videos sent in from around our viewing area
• Health – prepares and helps to sustain a healthy athlete for various types of sports; what to eat and drink, how warm up and cool down, sports psychology, etc
• Sports Tips – In season tips for coaches, parents and athletes
• Commentary – a la Andy Rooney  open to any panelist
• Village Bench Image – viewer sends an artist's rendering of what a village sports bench means to them. 
• News from around the area submitted by:
• Local schools and leagues
• Alumni News (Accomplishments)
• High School Athletic Boosters

This show will begin airing in the fall.  Training and planning meetings are Wednesdays from 7-9pm-ish starting July 18th through August starting.

It is a great opportunity for students interested in video and audio production, and parents and coaches who want to share their knowledge and experiences.
